Our Approach to Mental Health Care

Dr Anthony Dinesh is a Consultant Psychiatrist with more than 26 years of experience in psychiatry, including over 22 years practising in Australia and 4 years in India. He is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and supporting them to achieve meaningful improvements in their mental health and quality of life.

Dr Dinesh has a particular interest in the assessment and treatment of depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic illnesses. He believes that every person’s experience is unique and takes the time to understand each individual’s circumstances, working collaboratively to develop treatment plans that are evidence-based, practical, and tailored to their goals.

Dr Dinesh currently serves as the Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) at Glenside Campus, where he leads one of South Australia’s specialist ECT services. He is also actively involved in research, particularly in the field of neurostimulation, with the goal of bringing the latest evidence and innovations into everyday clinical practice.

Above all, Dr Dinesh strives to create a welcoming, respectful, and non-judgemental environment where people feel heard and supported. He understands that seeking help can be a significant step and is committed to working alongside his patients with empathy, honesty, and compassion to help them move towards recovery and lasting wellbeing.

Dr Usman is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Following his medical degree in India, he trained in Psychiatry in the UK and specialised in the field of Intellectual Disability Psychiatry. He moved to Adelaide and he was appointed in the newly established Developmental Disability Psychiatry position at the Women's and Children's Hospital.

Dr Usman worked at the Women's and Children's Hospital as Senior Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and as Clinical Director for CAMHS for a number of years.

His particular areas of expertise include Intellectual Disability, Neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism and ADHD.

He provides compassionate care grounded in active listening, thorough evaluation, and shared decision-making.

Associate Professor Prashant Tibrewal is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with over two decades of experience, with particular expertise in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, binge-eating disorders, and neuromodulation therapies including repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) for treatment-resistant depression.

He completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Psychiatry before specialist training in Australia, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), and holds a Master of Health Management from the University of New South Wales.

His approach starts with careful diagnostic assessment, combining biological, psychological and social treatment where indicated — including rTMS — developed in consultation with patients, families and other treating professionals.

Alongside private practice, Prashant holds senior leadership roles in South Australia's public mental health system, managing complex presentations and developing new models of care.

He also works in the medico-legal space as an Accredited Whole Person Impairment Assessor for ReturnToWorkSA and an Independent Medical Advisor to the South Australian Employment Tribunal.

Prashant is an Associate Professor (Clinical) at the University of Adelaide and is actively involved in undergraduate medical education. In addition, he has a longstanding commitment to teaching and mentoring junior doctors and psychiatry trainees through his clinical roles within South Australia's public mental health service. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing psychiatric practice through research, innovation and education.

Prashant recognises reaching out is often the hardest part — and sees his role, from that point, as making the path forward clear.

A/Prof. Alok Kumar Rana is a Consultant Psychiatrist, Neuropsychiatrist and Psychogeriatrician with expertise in neurostimulation therapies, neuropsychiatry, psychogeriatrics, consultation-liaison psychiatry, dementia and cognitive disorders, and general adult psychiatry including Neurodivergent conditions.

Dr Rana graduated with Honours from Chaudhary Charan Singh University (India) in 2000 and spent three years working in medicine before relocating to the United Kingdom in 2003. There, he completed his general psychiatry training, earning Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych), before undertaking advanced specialist training in Old Age Psychiatry.

In 2011, Dr Rana completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Neuropsychiatry from Birmingham University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Worcester. He moved to Australia in 2016, where he established specialist services including Consultation-Liaison and Older Persons Psychiatry services in Mackay, Queensland.

Dr Rana is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and holds Advanced Certificates in both Old Age Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2019 in recognition of his contributions to the College in the UK.

Throughout his career, Dr Rana has received several awards for his clinical and academic contributions, including the prestigious BMJ Dementia Team of the Year Award in 2015 in the UK.

As an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at James Cook University, Dr Rana is actively involved in Clinical research, teaching, training and supervising medical students, GP registrars, psychiatry trainees, and advanced trainees in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychogeriatrics. He has a number of publications in national and international research journals while actively presenting in conferences.

Alongside his public hospital role as a Consultation-Liaison and Older Persons Psychiatrist in Mackay, Dr Rana provides private outpatient psychiatric care in Mackay and at Stirling Health Hub, Adelaide where he also offers advanced neurostimulation treatments, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Esketamine therapy.

Dr Trushna Murgahayah is a consultant psychiatrist with expertise in the assessment and management of complex psychiatric disorders. She holds a Certificate in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and works across two public hospital settings, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and the Statewide Rehabilitation Services, where she provides specialist psychiatric care within the Brain Injury and Spinal Injury Units.

Her clinical interests focus on neuropsychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry, with particular expertise in the psychiatric assessment and management of patients with acquired brain injury, neurological disorders and complex medical comorbidities. She is experienced in formulating diagnostic clarity in multifaceted presentations and developing comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans that integrate biological, psychological, and functional aspects of care.

Dr Murgahayah is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care informed by current evidence and multidisciplinary collaboration. She works closely within multidisciplinary team settings to ensure coordinated management and optimise clinical outcomes. Her practice is characterised by careful assessment, thoughtful formulation, and an emphasis on delivering practical, individualised treatment recommendations for patients with complex neuropsychiatric presentations.

My clinical experience includes working within the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, where I provide psychological assessment and intervention across both inpatient and community settings. I have extensive experience collaborating with schools, community organisations, psychiatrists, paediatricians, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support mental health, developmental outcomes, and overall wellbeing.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am passionate about supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families to navigate life's challenges and achieve meaningful, lasting change. I provide evidence-based, compassionate care tailored to each individual's unique needs, helping clients develop greater self-understanding, strengthen emotional wellbeing, and build practical skills to manage life's complexities with confidence.

I work with a broad range of presentations, including anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions, and behavioural challenges. I also provide comprehensive developmental and psychoeducational assessments to assist with diagnosis, treatment planning, and educational support. I am a Certified Autism Diagnostician, having completed specialised clinical training in the assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder through the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Child Development Unit.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and client-centred. I draw on evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), adapting treatment to meet each person's goals and circumstances.

I am committed to providing culturally safe and culturally responsive care. I value the diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences that each person brings to therapy and strive to create an inclusive environment where clients feel respected, understood, and empowered. In addition to English, I am fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, enabling me to provide therapy in these languages and support clients from culturally and linguistically diverse communities with greater cultural understanding and sensitivity.

I believe that effective therapy is built on a strong therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help clients not only overcome current challenges but also develop the resilience, insight, and confidence to flourish throughout life.
